Throxenby Mere
Welcome to the Friends of Raincliffe Woods web site.
Through this site we will try and explain what the group is about , what we are striving to achieve and to give an overview of the environment and history of Raincliffe Woods.
But the only way to fully appreciate the woodland is to visit it.
Click on the links below or at top of page to navigate the site.
Our aim is to protect , promote and enhance the unique environment of Raincliffe Woods.
Described as the “the creme de la creme of woodland” by the Woodland Trust and with over 400 acres of open access, Raincliffe Woods has much to offer. Take a gentle stroll alongside the picturesque Throxenby Mere, wander through Raincliffe Meadow the site of a medieval assynt, or visit a replica of a medieval round house
Feeling more strenuous? head up to Lady Graces Ride and walk amongst mature Beech, ancient broadleaf woodland and alongside ancient tumuli. In Raincliffe Woods the choice is yours.
The Friends of Raincliffe Woods (FoRWoods) formed in 2005 to work to protect and restore the woodland, help promote the use of the woodland as an educational asset and to encourage responsible access to the woodland.
