Throxenby Mere
Welcome to the Friends of Raincliffe Woods web site.
Through this site we will try and explain what the group is about , what we are striving to achieve and to give an overview of the environment and history of Raincliffe Woods.
But the only way to fully appreciate the woodland is to visit it.
Throughout the site are images of Raincliffe Woods, click them to enlarge

Our aim is to protect , promote and enhance the unique environment of Raincliffe Woods.
Described as the “the creme de la creme of woodland” by the Woodland Trust and with over 400 acres of open access, Raincliffe Woods has much to offer.
Take a gentle stroll alongside the picturesque Throxenby Mere, wander through Raincliffe Meadow the site of a medieval assynt, visit a replicate of a medieval round house or just sit and picnic amongst this woodland idyll.
For a more strenuous walk climb up to Lady Graces Ride where you can walk amongst mature Beech, alongside ancient tumuli and ancient broadleaf woodland.
In Raincliffe Woods the choice is yours.
The Friends of Raincliffe Woods (FoRWoods) formed in 2005 to work to protect and restore the woodland, help promote the use of the woodland as an educational asset and to encourage responsible access to the woodland.
No longer a working woodland Raincliffe now needs investment and protection to ensure that this unique woodland environment is safeguarded now and for future generations.
The Friends of Raincliffe Woods, through active participation and campaigning, aim to help in providing that protection.
Please take the time to explore the website and find out how you can support our work, learn about our campaigns and get involved.
